CONYERS, Ga.-- BAT Logistics, one of the fastest growing 3PL providers of transportation services, awarded the winners of the Transportation Art Contest at Sims Elementary School in Conyers, Ga. The seven students were announced and awarded their Visa gift card prizes during a ceremony at the school today, Dec. 17.

For the Pre-K to First Grade category, Yesenia Cheban won first place, Maleah Miller won second place and Christina Luong won third. Jaelyn Miller was the sole winner in the Second to Third Grade category. In the Fourth to Fifth Grade category, Tony Silva won first place, Max Thomas won second place and Janie Carroll won third place.

First place winners all won $75 gift cards, second place won $40 and third place won $20 so that they each could purchase their very own new mode of transportation. In addition to the gift cards (and large symbolic checks!) the students received at the ceremony, their artwork will be posted on BAT's Facebook page throughout the week for all to admire.

In art class starting in mid-November, students were asked to draw and color a mode of transportation. The entries were judged in three grade groupings: Pre-K/Kindergarten/First, Second/Third and Fourth/Fifth.

The contest did not cost the school, students or community anything. BAT even provided the art classes with paper and markers for the contest. Last year was the first year of the contest.

Echo: Sad News

The news coming from Connecticut today is heartbreaking. We are deeply saddened by the loss of so many lives, a majority of which were young children, according to reports. Those of us with children will hug them a little longer and tighter tonight.

Whether you want them to or not, it's possible your child could find out something about today's events. Sesame Street shared these PSAs today to help parents and children deal with what they are seeing and hearing.

Also, this can be a hard time of year for many people for different reasons. While we do not yet know the cause of today's events, it can be a good reminder to check on family and friends who may need some extra emotional support. Many times, cries for help go ignored. Be there and provide the support needed.
